HERE are the latest Covid-19 rates across Cheshire West and East as Boris Johnson announces the end of Plan B Covid restrictions.

According to figures released by Public Health England, 1,321 new cases were recorded in the two boroughs between 4pm on January 18 and 4pm today.

This is made up of 599 cases in Cheshire West, taking the total number of cases in the borough since the pandemic began to 83,952.

In Cheshire East, there were 722 new cases, with the borough's total now standing at 89,609.

These latest figures mean 3,453 people have now tested positive for Covid in Cheshire West in the last week.

The borough's seven-day case rate is 1,004.3 per 100,000 of the population.

A total of 3,963 people tested positive in Cheshire East during the same period, taking the borough's case rate to 1,024.9.

Speaking in the House of Commons today, Wednesday, Mr Johnson said: “From the start of Thursday next week mandatory certification will end.

"Organisations can, of course, choose to use the NHS Covid pass voluntarily but we will end the compulsory use of Covid status certification in England.”

He added: “Having looked at the data carefully, the Cabinet concluded that once regulations lapse the Government will no longer mandate the wearing of face masks anywhere.

“From tomorrow, we will no longer require face masks in classrooms and the Department for Education will shortly remove national guidance on their use in communal areas."

Boris Johnson confirmed the intention to end the legal requirement to self-isolate in the coming weeks.

Mr Johnson said: “The self-isolation regulations expire on March 24, at which point I very much expect not to renew them."
