POPPY Curran scored her first goal for the Winnington Park Hockey Club women's first team in a 3-1 win at Crewe.

Her strike, from a short corner, gave the side the advantage at the break in what proved to be an end-to-end affair.

Crewe levelled matters with 10 minutes to go but Park were in no mood to let the points slip.

From the restart, Park pushed and equalised through energetic player-of-the-match Nic Hall's brilliant deflection.

And then about five minutes from full-time Leona Trimble netted the winner.

The men's team's expansive hockey paid off in a 3-1 victory at Lancaster and Morecambe.

Man-of-the-match Danny Hilton grabbed two of the goals, including the killer third in the second half.

Both of his strikes came from short corners, his first being added to by a Greg Wilkes effort but Lancaster pulled a goal back shortly before the break.

Park women's second string were unable to repeat the dose and fell 4-1 at home to Crewe, who took the lead late in the first half but Winnington quickly replied through Eileen Miller from a short corner.

Crewe successfully changed their tactics in the second half, with overloading of players leading to two quick goals in what was otherwise described as an even contest.

Winnington created a number of chances but could not finish them off and Crewe sealed the game with a fourth goal.

Park men's seconds came out on top in an eight-goal home encounter with Sandbach.

Winnington controlled the game from the start and soon got off the mark thanks to Paul Stackhouse.

Mark Leigh got his first of three soon after and Harrison Austin made it 3-0.

Sandbach found the net twice either side of the interval before Leigh restored Park's two-goal cushion. The visitors responded and pegged Park back to make it 4-3 but Leigh settled matters with his hat-trick score.

Harlie Stokes was named man of the match for his tireless display in defence.

Liam Mckee scored seven goals and provided two more for teammates as the thirds recorded a 9-2 success at Deeside.

Tony Taig and Stuart Entwistle netted the other two goals.

Mckee shared the man-of-the-match honour with Russel Snowdon.

Park’s Juniors registered a 4-0 victory over Alderley Edge with goals from Moloney-Pugh, A Martin, and two from L Smith.
