A ROCK musical is coming to the region thanks to the Mid Cheshire Musical Theatre Company.

After a successful production of Sunshine on Leith, the company is now bringing to life American Idiot – a sung-through musical based on the album of the same name by Green Day.

This latest venture will be directed by Louise Colohan, with Ian Sherwood and Caitlin Sherwood as musical directors and Jenna Finnigan as choreographer.

It will be performed between March 9 and 12 at the iconic Plaza in Northwich.

A spokesperson said: "American Idiot is a two-time Tony Award-winning musical, based on the Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album.

"This high-octane show includes every song from Green Day's album American Idiot, as well as many songs from their follow-up album 21st Century Breakdown.

"Johnny, Tunny and Will struggle to find meaning in a post 911 world.

"The three men flee the constraints of their hometown and head to the city, however their paths are quickly halted when Will is called back to parental responsibilities, Tunny enters the armed forces and Johnny's attention becomes divided between a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship.

"American Idiot is an energy-fuelled rock opera which features little dialogue, relying on the lyrics of Green Day's groundbreaking album to execute the story line.

"Mid Cheshire Musical Theatre Company are thrilled to be bringing American Idiot to Northwich.

"This will be the first musical at the newly refurbished Plaza which is the perfect venue to bring this gritty musical to life.

"The show features a live band throughout as well as a very talented cast."

Due to the nature of the show, viewer discretion is advised.
