SUSPECTED ordnance have been blown up in Leigh Creek, Southend Coastguard said.

After five separate items were located, a secure cordon was put in place to detonate the ordnance.

HM Coastguard Southend were called in by a first informant to Leigh Creek after a suspected ordnance was located. 

It was confirmed that 5 seperate items of suspected ordnance were located.

 

 

Coastguard officers took photographs, measurements and recorded exact locations before passing them over to the Dover Coastguard OPs Centre for discussion with EOD teams.

The items were further inspected Army EOD team from Colchester barracks.

It was then established that these items were live ordnance of various types and decided they needed to be exploded in situ. 

A secure cordon was then put inplace as detonation preparations began.

Due to the time of the year, weather can stir up seabeds and mudlats leading to suspect items beings found.
