FILM and comic lovers will get the chance to release their inner hero when a new event comes to Northwich.

Passionate comic fan Mike Holman has organised a special festival for the town celebrating movies and comic books.

The event, which will take place between 10am and 5pm on November 27, is being held at The Plaza in Witton Street.

Mike, from Northwich, hopes the Northwich Film and Comic Con Festival will be a fantastic experience for people.

He said: “I’m a Northwich ‘boy’ and have lived here all my life. I used to have a part-time job on the outdoor market each week and after finishing would go straight to the indoor market and spend all my money at the second-hand book stall on comics.

“I’ve always had a passion for comics ever since a young age. I dressed up as Spider-Man as kid too. I have always loved it.

“I’m hoping to involve as many Northwich-based sellers as possible.

“I’m really pleased we have actors in role coming along who want to engage with their biggest fans, they want to make their day. I can’t wait.”

At the event will be stalls with toys, collectables, Lego and artwork, which will also be on sale.

For those who enjoy dressing up there will be cosplay competitions.

A VR zone will also be there, for a small charge, and a film screening with some question-and-answer content from film production crews and actors allowing cosplay enthusiasts to know everything they want to know about their favourite heroes.

The original murals from the foyer of the town’s former Regal Cinema, which was demolished in 2013, will be the pride of place on stage for everyone to see and take pictures.

There will also be opportunity to take a fun selfie, alongside some props and backdrops, with a variety of characters such as Batman, Iron Man, Baymax and some Stormtroopers.

Lightning McQueen from Cars, as well as cars from Fast & Furious, can also be found outside for pictures.

Tickets are available online for pre-sale, with adult tickets at £5, and a children’s ticket at £3.

Mike added: “Although there is a small charge, everyone attending the event will receive a gift, including a very limited number of gold and silver tickets, which include signatures, photos, VR experiences and a bespoke goodie bag. Everyone gets something out of it.”

Not only is he organising the festival, Mike has also spoken to Northwich Library, with the aim of starting a weekly comic event every Saturday there to help encourage children to read and enjoy comics.

He said: “It’s really important children have these first-hand experiences; they learn and engage. That’s why events like these are so important.”

Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. They can be bought at facebook.com/Northwichcomicfilm/ or from Millennium Comics and DB2.0 in Church Road, Northwich Radio in Leicester Street or Goblin Gaming on the Riverside Trading Estate.
