CROWDS of Knutsford residents paid their respects on Remembrance Sunday at services across the town.

The Remembrance parade assembled at King Street Car Park and set off along King Street, Tatton Street, Canute Place and Princess Street to arrive at St John’s Church for a service.

The church then lead a procession to the Centennial War Memorial for the main wreath laying and service with a two-minute silence.

Further Remembrance services were held at the Crosstown War Memorial, War Memorial Cottage Hospital and Tatton Park.

Speaking at the wreath laying at the Centennial War Memorial, Mayor of Knutsford Cllr Stewart Gardiner said: "I'd like to thank each and every one of you who is here today.

"I've never seen so many people at a Remembrance service in Knutsford.

"I've lived here the past 18 years, I've been attending these events for about 12, and it is amazing to see so many of you.

"Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to every person from Knutsford and the surrounding parishes who went to war from 1914-1918 and from 1939-1945, and since that time, on behalf of this country and in the interests of freedom.

"Every one of those who gave their lives, or who went and came back damaged in some way, did so that we might live in a better world.

"So when things aren't always going the way we like, or we think the world may have lost its way, remember there were darker days in the past, and there will be brighter days to come, always."
