A RECENTLY-formed theatre company will be the first in the north west to bring Calendar Girls The Musical to the stage.

Salt and Pepper Productions is putting on the show at The Grange Theatre in Northwich from November 24 to 27.

In contrast to the company's award-winning production of Rock of Ages in 2017, this musical will take you on a 'roller coaster of a journey'.

The script and score, written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow, tells the story of how the death of a much-loved husband prompts a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire Women's Institute to create an artistic nude calendar to raise money for charity.

Auditions for the production took place over Zoom, which was a new experience for the group.

And come rain or shine, garden rehearsals took place – the stage was a gazebo and the pianist even took cover under an umbrella.

Tea and coffee was supplied, together with biscuits and cakes, and all Covid restrictions were followed.

As with its last production, Salt and Pepper Productions will donate all the profit from the show to charities close to their hearts.

A spokesperson added: "Joanna Milborne-Chatt, with her very dear friend Helen Mayne, are working together to create a great show – two local girls held in the highest esteem for their productions.

"Both the girls are school teachers and have had much success over the years, assisting students to further their talents to the professional stage.

"With theatre being on hold for such a long this company wanted to put the 'salt' back into Northwich and add a little spice of 'pepper' to all who needed it.

"Garden rehearsals were just the tonic and even the neighbours enjoyed a sneak preview before the curtain opens in November.

"With a very talented cast Calendar Girls The Musical is a production not to be missed.

"All profits will be divided between Headway and Blood Cancer UK.

"Tickets are available from the Grange Theatre, Northwich."
