PUBS had a bit of cheer last week with the news a planned rise on booze duty would be cancelled.

The news is also good for punters as it means the cost of a pint in your favourite watering hole could well be cheaper too.

Our new pub of the week feature seeks to shine a light on the much loved industry as it recovers from the huge impact of national lockdowns during the pandemic.

A little about yourself and your pub?

How long have you been in the pub business and what do you love most about your job?

I’ve been working in pubs since I was 18, studied hospitality at university and then made the plunge to run our own pubs in 2010 as a family-run business.

I love the connections you make with your customers. There aren’t many industries where you are the go to place for celebrations, commiserations and life decisions.

What sets you apart from other pubs in the area?

We are really blessed across Cheshire to have such a wide range of pubs, all with different offerings. Interestingly we held a meeting with our team recently to discuss this very topic. Every pub will have great people at the heart of them that are passionate about food, service and hospitality.

We like to add those little touches that make the difference, for our guests this is summed up in our use of linen napkins, homemade chocolate truffles with your coffee. Those unexpected treats.

For our team, we give them the space to be creative and invest in their equipment to be able to deliver a memorable experience. When a customer requests something we want to be able to say yes.

How do you feel your business have dealt with the last 18 months or so?

It’s clearly been tough, but, our customers and team have helped us pull through. We are extremely optimistic for the future of the Antrobus Arms and plan more reinvestment to make the pub even better.

What can you do to bring in even more trade?

We believe that consistency is vital for us to grow. We want to let everyone know how great the Antrobus Arms is. We firmly believe that once people have come through our doors they will want to come back again and again.

What’s your own personal favourite tipple and why?

I’m a big real ale and wine fan. This is reflected in the selection available at the Antrobus Arms. Extensive wine list, that is ever-growing and well kept real ales.
