DELAYS of more than an hour are reported on the M6 northbound after a collision between a car and a lorry this morning, Thursday.

Two lanes remain closed between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 18 for Holmes Chapel and Middlewich.

Delays are quickly building on the approach to the incident, with more than six miles of congestion and journey times are around an hour longer than normal.

Traffic is back to junction 16.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police confirmed: "At 11.30am police were called to reports of a collision on the M6 Northbound between junctions 17 and 18

"Officers attended and found the incident involved a green Alfa Romeo and a HGV.

"There are no reports of any injuries however the HGV has a ruptured fuel tank resulting in a large spillage.

"Two lanes are currently closed as a result of the incident.

"The lane closures are expected to remain in place for several hours while clean up work is undertaken."
