MIDDLEWICH Cricket Club is looking forward to the return of its annual Bonfire and Fireworks Night next weekend.

Although the club recognised it is 'relatively early days recovering from the pandemic', it is confident it can put on a safe and successful family-friendly event on November 6.

Gates will open at 6pm, with the bonfire lit at 7.30pm and fireworks at 8pm.

There will be food outlets on site with some stalls for children.

Dave Parry, chairman at Middlewich Cricket Club said: "It feels really good to be back organising the bonfire.

"We've always prided ourselves in making it an event for the people of the town and they have always supported us in return.

"We're hoping for a fine evening and looking forward to another successful evening."

Stalls include hook-a-duck, light sticks, candy floss, pizzas, burgers, hot desserts and hot drinks.

Dave added: "Historically, the bonfire monies get us through the winter period – it is basically our last source of income until the new cricket season gets under way next April.

"The lockdown period has been exceedingly tough and without grants from local Government we would have found it extremely difficult to survive.

"Our treasurer, Steve Gill, has skilfully guided us through those tricky months and we are confidently looking forward to the next season.

"Prior to the pandemic we decided to take out a very large loan to enable the purchase of a new mower for cutting the outfield.

"This was essential expenditure as our existing mower had reached the end of its useful life.

"We still owe significant monies, which were deferred through the pandemic, but now have to be found.

"As a committee we are in the process of updating our development plan for the next five years.

"We would dearly love to refurbish and modernise the clubhouse which is now showing it's age.

"The ground is in very good shape and we must maintain that constantly.

"Furthermore we are always looking to support all our cricket teams."
