A CONSULTATION has been launched over proposals for a massive housing development and new school at Winnington Works.

Tata Chemicals Europe and INOVYN Enterprises Limited in partnership with Gladman Developments are asking residents for views on what they called a ‘residential-led, mixed use scheme’.

Following the consultation, they will then take forward an outline planning application which – if approved by planning chiefs – would see the creation of a massive new development with 1,500 new homes, employment, public open space and a primary school, along with a range of other community facilities. The first homes would be due for completion after 2025.

The land was made available following the closure of the soda ash plant in 2014 and has been identified for regeneration in Cheshire West & Chester Council’s adopted Local Plan – the document which lays out an authority’s planning strategy for the coming years.

A statement on the project’s website, said: “The scheme presents a unique opportunity to breathe new life into this brownfield site, which has been identified for regeneration in the Cheshire West & Chester Local Plan.

“The proposals present an opportunity to regenerate this brownfield site and deliver a beautiful, high quality and sustainable, modern development, fit for 21st century living.

“Before submitting an outline planning application, we want to hear from residents.”

As part of the consultation, there will be a series of webinars with the project team on November 2 (10-11am), November 3 (6-7pm) and November 4 (3–4pm).

The statement added: “During the webinars, the team will explain our approach before opening to questions.”

Full details of the plans and information on how to access the webinars and respond to the consultation can be found at the project website at http://winningtonworks.co.uk
