COMBERBACH'S Stuart Kellett and Matt Thurlwell fell at the final hurdle on Friday night in their attempt to win the two-man team competition at Castle Sports, writes David O'Brien.

On their way to the final they recorded excellent wins against Lee Johnstone, a multiple competition winner on the Castle green, and Dave Penketh in the last eight before dispatching the Wharton Cons pairing of Tom Vickers and Danny Nixon in the semi-finals.

These impressive wins must have given the Comberbach pair confidence moving into the final, but it was at this stage they met their match in the form of Simon Coupe and Jack Hargreaves, who romped home.

Jack Holland of Hyde claimed the first prize at Middlewich RBL on Saturday evening, coming through the last 16 field to defeat Jamie Hulse of Wharton Rec 21-15 in the final.

The bowls season is coming to end over the coming weeks but there are two competitions remaining locally.

Wharton Cons are running a one-day pairs this Saturday when 32 good quality pairings will be on show, with play starting from 10am.

On the following Saturday, October 16, Owley wood host a one-day competition at the Weaverham venue.
