BARNTON marked their 2021 junior day in perfect fashion as they picked up their fifth win in six league games as they beat Brocton in a six-goal thriller at Townfield Lane on Saturday.

Sub Jordan Monthe helped himself to two late goals to cap off a fine Barnton performance, with Matty Waller and Alex Jones getting the other goals in the 4-2 success.

The visitors dominated for long periods of the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough and the Villagers eventually found their way into the contest with Ross Avies going close before Tom Edwards and Jack Duffy drove efforts wide.

It was Avies who was brought down by the Brocton keeper after he found himself in on goal and Waller emphatically opened the scoring from the spot.

George Farrelly missed a great chance to double the lead as his effort was cleared off the line as the Villagers ended the half on top.

The second half saw the Villagers blitz their visitors with sub Monthe causing mayhem, but it was centre half Alex Jones who got the second as he scored a memorable goal after picking up the ball inside his own half before finishing past their keeper after some fantastic link-up play.

It was then the Monthe show as he forced a great save from the busy Corey Mallen in the Brocton net and then got his first goal after winning the ball in midfield before driving into the heart of the Brocton defence before finishing calmly.

The chances kept coming for the Villagers with Waller going close after finding himself through on goal, but the visitors found a way back into the game as Brocton captain Jake Thomas smashed the ball past Arran Lyons.

Thomas then hit a fantastic effort from distance to suddenly give his team a real chance of getting something from nowhere.

Despite the late pressure the Barnton backline held firm and it was Monthe who had the final say as he thumped the ball home from inside the area.
