NORTHWICH is set to launch an online book club for both avid and new readers.
The town's iconic library along with Transition Northwich will run the weekly club, which means you can take part from the comfort of your own home.
Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester said: "Reading is a wonderful way to escape, relax and learn.
"Many people have rediscovered books during lock-down and found books to be deeply comforting during the challenges of the last year.
"We’re looking forward to meeting people who may be completely new to reading as well as from book enthusiasts and members of existing book clubs.
"This club is inspired by a popular weekly session already run by the Storyhouse library team in Chester.
"There’s no required reading, just a friendly, relaxed chat to share what you’ve been reading and what you’re excited to read next."
Northwich Book Club is set to launch next week
Transition Northwich coordinator, Alison Allum said how the scheme had been successfully trialled over the summer.
She said: "The library staff do a great job of helping everyone feel welcome and keeping the conversation flowing.
"The chats were different each week, depending who joins in and what books we chat about.
"It was real pleasure to hear someone describe a good book and their recommendations have certainly inspired me to try new authors.
"Recommending a book is like giving a gift and it costs nothing."
The project is supported by The National Lottery Local Connections Fund, which allowed Transition Northwich to buy 'reading tablets' to lend out, through the library service, to people who need a device to participate.
The tablets are simple to use and have the library eBook and eAudiobook apps installed, so participants can dip into books easily and join the club on Zoom.
Northwich Book Chat will meet for the first time on Friday, October 8 at 11am via Zoom.
