THE M56 was closed due to a police incident this afternoon, Friday.
This occurred at 1.45pm between junction 12 for Runcorn and Widnes and junction 11 for Warrington.
Officers attended the motorway after receiving reports of concerns over the safety of a man on a bridge above the carriageway.
He has since been led to safety and taken to hospital as a precaution.
The M56 was closed in both directions while officers were in attendance, but it has since reopened.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 1.45pm on Friday, September 24, police were called to concerns for the safety of a man on a bridge over the M56 between junction 12 to junction 11.
“Officers attended and engaged with the man, who came down safely and has been taken to hospital as a precaution.”
