CHILDREN in Knutsford have been recognised for successfully completing a reading challenge aimed at getting more youngsters to pick up a book.

Around 150 children, from all primary schools across the town, took part in Knutsford Library's Summer Reading Challenge.

And last week, the town's mayor Cllr Stewart Gardiner, presented 40 youngsters with medals for their participation in the reading challenge.

Cllr Gardiner said “I was really pleased to meet all the children who had taken part in this excellent programme to encourage children to read for pleasure.

"Reading opens our minds and our imaginations, so congratulations to all of the Summer Reading Challenge participants.

"Thanks should be given to the local primary schools for promoting the reading challenge so enthusiastically.

"And also to the Summer Reading Challenge volunteers who have made such a big contribution throughout this summer.”

The initiative was driven by Knutsford Library which organise a range of activities to encourage a love a reading from an early age, including Rhyme Time for babies and Storytime for pre-school aged children.

More details can be found on the library's Facebook page at facebook.com/CECknutsfordlibrary.
