DRAMATIC images have been released of a massive barn fire in Darnhall, near Winsford on Sunday (September 19).

At one point, eight fire engines were sent to the farm on Hall Lane, where two barns containing hundreds of tonnes of hay each were well ablaze.

Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the night putting out the flames and they also helped the farmer move around 400 animals to safety.

Crews remain on the scene this morning, now using a main jet and digging the area to be dampened down.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire engines were reduced to one pump overnight and ground monitors were placed around the affected areas which crews kept watch.

"The crew used handheld water branches to damp down the affected area and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.

"Once it was light, crews continued with digging out the area and they continued to damp down the hay that was removed from the barns."
