A WINSFORD drug addict has escaped immediate custody after he admitted a string of offences, including stealing booze and Lego from Asda in Northwich.

Christopher Jay Moore, of Catalan Close, also pleaded guilty to stealing a Trek bicycle worth £800, and assaulting another man in an attack in May of this year.

The 38-year-old was appearing at Cheshire Magistrates Court on Friday, September 10, where he pleaded guilty to a total of four charges, which also included breaching the terms of a community order for offences of theft, criminal damage, disorderly behaviour, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.

Magistrates deemed the offences so serious they handed Moore two consecutive custodial sentences of 18 weeks, while another 18 week tariff will be served concurrently.

However, the 36 weeks in prison will be suspended for a period of two years, with the defendant instead made to wear an electronic tag and be under a household curfew for 12 weeks.

Despite being subject of a community order, which was revoked as part of his sentence, Moore stole alcohol, electrical items and Lego to the value of £195.07 from the Barons Quay branch of Asda on May 3. During the same incident, he also assaulted a man, by beating him.

Undeterred by his already considerable string of offences, Moore struck again, this time when taking a Trek bike belonging to Nicholas Hardy on July 19.

As part of his 12 weeks living under curfew, the defendant will have to be at his home address between the hours of 7pm until 5am, until the term runs out on December 2.

Moore will also receive treatment for his drug dependency for a period of six months under the supervision of the probation service, which will also include 40 days of rehabilitation.

If he fails to comply with the requirements outlined by magistrates, it is likely his custodial sentence will be activated and he will have to serve 36 weeks in jail instead.

Moore was also told to pay compensation of £800 to the victim of the bike theft and £100 to the man he attacked at Asda.
