THE first amateur production of Sunshine on Leith is coming to Northwich this month thanks to the Mid Cheshire Musical Theatre Company.

The stage musical features songs by The Proclaimers and the company has even received a message of good luck from the duo themselves.

The musical centres around two friends, Ally and Davvy, who, following their involvement in a tragic incident whilst stationed in Afghanistan, are discharged from the army and return to their homes and families in Scotland.

Ally is soon reunited with his girlfriend, Davy’s sister, Liz who wastes no time in setting up her brother with fellow nurse, Yvonne.

Meanwhile, Liz and Davy’s parents, Rab and Jean, are preparing for their 30th wedding anniversary party when a mysterious figure from the past threatens to disrupt the celebrations.

The boys struggle to readjust to civilian life and both soon realise that the path to true love in Leith is rarely an easy one.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently rehearsing at The Plaza in Northwich and the show will take place at Northwich Memorial Court between September 22 and 25.

"All of the songs are Proclaimers' hits, including 500 Miles, Letter from America, Let's Get Married and I'm on my Way.

"Our director is Louise Colohan, choreographer is Liz Cardall, musical director is Marilyn Blank and stage manager is Paul Downham.

"We started rehearsals in May but we could obviously only have six people at a time.We had our first full cast rehearsal on the July 19."

Chairperson Sarah Sherwood added: "I am so pleased after all that people have been through with Covid, we are able to get back on stage and perform this wonderful show, bringing some sunshine to the people of Northwich."
