PLANS have been submitted for a new neighbourhood shopping centre as part of a wider housing development in Winnington.

Outline planning permission was originally granted for up to 160 new homes, as well as a family pub/restaurant and retail units on the site of the old Winnington Business Park in July, 2018.

Council planning chiefs then gave the green light to 124 homes on the site, off Winnington Avenue, in September last year.

But now a subsequent reserved matters application has been submitted for 11,600 sq ft of retail space with three units forming what the planning documents referred to as a ‘neighbourhood shopping centre’. A total of 60 car parking spaces would also be created.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans referred to the site previously containing warehouse units which were used for container maintenance with accompanying servicing facilities, including a canteen building and toilet block.

The site is also next to the proposed Winnington Urban Village, which consists of 1,200 new homes, and Winnington Dale, a site recently redeveloped by Barratt Homes consisting of 153 new homes.

It also borders an empty plot of land with planning permission for an industrial park, an Ecolab plant and Moss Farm Leisure Complex.

A covering letter submitted to Cheshire West and Chester’s planning department with the new proposals, said: “Overall, the proposed development is pursuant to the outline planning permission and will deliver a small, high quality, well profiled and defined neighbourhood shopping centre to serve the local community.”
