SOAP stars are teaming up with ex professionals to take part in a celebrity football match.

The game is raising funds for a charity set up in memory of Matilda Cosgrove, who was tragically stillborn just over a year ago.

Her parents, Mark and Stacie, wanted to do something for the children being treated at Alder Hey.

The Matilda Foundation will be launched at Witton Albion's ground on Sunday with a family fun day kicking off at 12 noon.

Matt Greenway, whose mother-in-law works with Stacie, wanted to do something to help and has organised the event.

He said: "I heard about the story and I just wanted to get involved in whatever way I could.

"I've held football events in the past so it was something I had some experience in doing.

"The response so far has been really positive, with plenty of local businesses getting involved and showing their support.

"It was originally just going to be a charity game. But when I sat down with Stacie and Mark, we ran all these ideas passed each other so the whole thing has turned more into a family fun day."

A raffle and auction will help to boost funds.

Bouncy castles, face painting and balloon artists will keep children entertained and there will also be lots of stalls.

Celebrities playing include Dancing on Ice star Joe Warren Plant from Emmerdale, David Kennedy who played Dirk Savage in Hollyoaks, Freddie Bolt who played Reece Murgatroyd in Ackley Bridge, SAS Who Dares Wins star and dancer Rich Allen and Bradley Johnson from Emmerdale.

Ex Portsmouth, Blackpool, Ipswich, Leeds United, Hull City and Plymouth midfielder will join the celebrity team, The Phoenix, Supporting Charities FC.

The match starts at 3pm.

Mark's dad will join local lads to play against the stars as Matilda Foundation FC.

Tickets priced £5 for adults and £2.50 under 16s will be available at the turnstyle. Children aged three and under have free admission.
