PARENTS and businesses have pulled together to give Leftwich pupils a prom to remember.

Students from The County High School were unable to have their usual prom this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but their parents were determined to help them celebrate the end of a tough few years.

Sarah Gibbs, one of those involved in organising the event, said: "Many schools across the country had no other option than to cancel proms, ours included at The County High School in Leftwich, following guidance from the Department of Education.

"Schools were placed in a very difficult position of not wanting to take responsibility of organising them and subsequently cancelling.

"As parents of pupils at The County High School we decided we would take on the responsibility of arranging a prom for the pupils, working within Government guidelines.

"It had originally been arranged to take place on June 24 at Vale Royal Abbey but unfortunately due to an extended lockdown, the date had to be re arranged.

"So now we have not only a celebration of completing our children's time at high school but also a celebration of their exam results."

The prom will take place on September 2 at Vale Royal Abbey – and it is sure to be a fun-filled evening.

Sarah said: "We want to bring together an evening that our children can remember and end their schooling life with smiles on their faces and a memory to treasure before they move on to their next chapter.

"We have managed to secure funding from some amazing businesses at the heart of our community.

"So far we've received generous donations from Alex and Ian Storey from Storey Estate Agents, Michelle Saunders at J&A Brokers Ltd, Denis Ellis at Vale Royal River Park and a very kind parent Helen Newby.

"Thanks also go to Roberts Vain Wilshaw, Cheshire Quality and Weaver Dane Ltd.

"Jane Nugent from Tilly's of Davenham has very kindly offered to decorate the event for free with her amazing and very beautiful arrangements.

"Angie Fitton from Flutes and Flair will be bringing along her sweets cart, doughnut wall and igloos, and Mike Boyes will DJ on the night, offering his services for free.

"This is a testament to the kind and caring people we have within our community.

"We're all very much looking forward to giving our amazing kids a night to remember.

"We'd also like to thank all the staff at The County High School in Leftwich for supporting our children through the national pandemic."
