STUDENTS have been praised for their 'indomitable spirit' after they achieved brilliant results in their GCSE's.

For the Class of 2021 at Weaverham High School, the year has been one of the most challenging in recent history, with the pandemic having a huge impact on their education.

However, they have been praised for how they were able to overcome everything the year had to throw at them by showing huge levels or resilience and positivity.

Headteacher Clare Morgan said: "Each and every one of our students should be proud of their achievements, efforts and successes and deserve all our praise.

"Thanks must also go to our dedicated and passionate staff who have worked tirelessly supporting our students in the most challenging of years.

"Without doubt, the support students have received from their parents has helped then navigate such an anxious and difficult time - a heartfelt thank you to all of our year 11 parents.

"We wish all of our students the very best in their next steps of education, safe in the knowledge that they have developed the character and skills needed to excel, wherever their journey takes them."

She said: "I'm now going to Sir John Deane's to do A-levels in Biology, English Lit and History."

Beatrice Turner, meanwhile, was celebrating three 7's, four 8's and two 9's and will also head off to sixth form to do her A-levels.

Ellie Bennett, who got 7's or above in every subject, wants to pursue a career in medicine, with an overall aim of one day being a doctor in the British Army.

She said: "I got four 7's, three 8's and two 9's.

"I got an 8 in maths and in year 9 I failed it, so it's quite an improvement.

"I want to eventually go to medical school because I want to be a doctor in the army."

Hollie Ellams achieved, two 9's five eights, a 7 and a 6 and will now go and study A-levels in Biology, Psychology and PE and hopes to one day become a physio.

All four girls spoke about the stresses of the last 18 months and how it impacted on their studies.

They said: "It was unpredictable, because after Christmas, we didn't come back for over a month.

"We didn't know quite how it would all work out and whether or not there was only a certain amount of grades teachers could give out.

"But we're all so pleased with how its turned out."

It was the second consecutive year the school was able to celebrate excellence across all areas of the curriculum with pupils achieving 9's in every single faculty.
