NEW retirement living apartments have officially opened on the site of a former council building in Northwich.

Your Housing Group opened Waters Cross in Watling Street last week, built by regeneration specialist Vistry Partnership.

Mayor of Northwich councillor, Sam Naylor, who attended the opening, said: "I live and breathe Northwich and I’m committed to supporting investment and development that makes a positive impact and helps regenerate the area for local people.

"The design and finish of these retirement apartments is fantastic and will benefit those over 55 who are looking towards retirement."

The event also welcomed future residents who were able to see the full development for the first time, as well as representatives from Homes England, and Jacque Allen, deputy chief executive of Your Housing Group.

The site was once a former Cheshire West and Chester Council building and sits on the banks of the River Dane.

It now features 70 high-quality one and two-bedroom apartments created for the community’s over 55s and brings boutique hotel-style living to Northwich town centre.

Residents will benefit from a range of on-site facilities including a bistro, run by local provider Kanya, and feature garden.

Vistry Partnerships’ managing director for the north west, Ian Hilliker, said: "We’re delighted to have completed this important development and we look forward to seeing Your Housing Group open the doors of Waters Cross to the community.

"The high-quality apartments will offer a new standard of independent living for the over 55s in Northwich, and we hope to have injected new life into this landmark location."

Nearly two-thirds of the apartments will be available for shared ownership with Your Housing Group, while the remaining 25 properties will be for outright sale.

Jacque Allen, deputy chief executive, Your Housing Group said: "We’re passionate about providing homes for people at every stage of life and creating more places for people to thrive.

"Waters Cross will provide a modern and vibrant community for people planning their retirement or already enjoying it. We’re very proud of this development and we can’t wait to start welcoming residents.”
