CHILDREN making the step up from primary to high school in Northwich are being given a helping hand this summer.

The County High School Leftwich is holding its first ever ‘Summer School’ which will run from from Monday, August 9 – Friday, August 13.

Around 150 of the 214 students transferring to Year 7 at the school will attend the week long event, which has a theme of 'Aliens landing on Planet Leftwich'.

The aim of the Summer School is to provide students with:

• a fun and enriching snapshot of the lived experience of a County High School Leftwich student;

• an opportunity to meet and work with their peers;

• an opportunity to get to know County High School Leftwich teachers and support staff and their expectations;

• an opportunity to sharpen their knowledge and skills, character and creativity and imagination;

• an opportunity to see that during secondary school, students can enjoy and achieve excellence.

Throughout the week, students will take part in a number of sessions delivered by subject teachers, including Maths, Science, Geography, History, Religious Studies, Modern Foreign Languages and Design and Technology.

By the end of the week, students will have taken part in a number of fun and engaging activities experiencing some of the different subjects offered at the school.

Head Teacher Matthew Snelson said: "We are so excited to get to meet our new Year 7 students.

"I am sure that the students will enjoy the week and be even more excited to join us in September by the end of it.

"The week coincides with our Year 11 results celebration so as we say goodbye and good luck to one group of successful students, we also welcome and start preparing the next cohort, who we know will be equally happy and successful."
