TWO drivers were caught using a mobile phone on the motorway within minutes.

North West Motorway Police stopped both motorists this morning and issued them with a fixed penalty notice, also known as a traffic offence report or TOR.

Both drivers were fined £200 and given six penalty points on their licence.

North West Motorway Police tweeted: "Driver seen on mobile phone whilst driving. TOR issued."

Police remind road users that is illegal to use a handheld mobile phone or similar device when driving, stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.

Motorists will receive a fine of £200 and 6 penalty points if you are caught using a handheld phone while driving.

The rules are the same if you’re stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.
