A POPULAR village pub is celebrating after winning a Trip Advisor award.

The Bull's Head in Davenham has been given a Travellers Choice Award, for the second consecutive year, based on reviews and ratings from its customers.

Its been an incredibly difficult last 18 months for the hospitality sector, with pubs being particularly hard hit.

For licensee Julie Robinson, who has been running the pub with husband Stephen for the last six years, the recognition means a lot, as the awards are based on customer reviews.

She said: "It means a lot to get this award again.

"It's a way of people expressing what they think about the pub and the experiences they've had here.

"To be back open again is such a great relief.

"We survived during lockdown by serving takeaways for the local community, which was good and kept us all really busy.

"Its been a hard 18 months but we've come through it and now we're slowly getting back to normal."

Being given the award and seeing familiar faces return to the bar has been a most welcome sight, with lockdown also bringing some new customers.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has supported us, particularly during lockdown with ordering takeaways," Julie added.

"But its been so nice to welcome back all our regulars, who have stuck by us for the last six years.

"And there's also all the new people we're meeting since lockdown, who tried us for a takeaway and now they're coming in as it is now."

One thing that is for certain, is the fact it will be the last award Julie and Stephen will receive as they are retiring from the pub in November after serving with distinction for the last 40 years.

She added: "The pub is a real family-run and personal affair as our two daughters, Stephanie and Becky, also work here.

"We've done 40 years now and there are so many people to thank for our time here."
