AN honourable Barnton resident has been presented with a community award after saving a man’s life in the village.

Leeroy Brown helped perform CPR for more than 40 minutes after a man collapsed in the Co-op food store in Lydyett Lane.

“It was in lockdown last year, about May time,” Leeroy said.

“It was a Sunday afternoon and I’d gone to get my shopping.

“I walked straight through the shop and I heard a bang and one of the members of staff was struggling with this guy.

“I went over and we started giving him chest compressions while someone rang an ambulance.

“We were doing CPR for more than 40 minutes.

“Eventually I got him back – he was pale and he was getting his breath.”

The gentleman was then passed over to the care of paramedics.

Leeroy said he had never seen the man before and wanted to pass over his best wishes.

To recognise his remarkable efforts, Leeroy was presented with a community award by Barnton Parish Council for saving a life in the village.

“I got a letter the other day and that was a nice surprise,” he added.

The Co-op team has also thanked Leeroy for selflessly stepping in to help the CPR efforts.

Iain Williamson, Co-op store manager, said: “I was the manager of our Barnton store at the time.

"It was a really busy day but I was able to start CPR on the gentleman and continued until Leeroy stepped in to take over, allowing me to help the team with keeping the area clear and supporting other customers.

"It was a scary situation and I’m very grateful that Leeroy was there to revive the gentleman.

"His efforts saved his life and the community award is the perfect recognition for him.

"On behalf of the team, I’d like to say thank you and well done."
