BEEKEEPERS were delighted to once again be informing people about their rewarding hobby.

Making their 16th visit to the Royal Cheshire County Show, Mid Cheshire Beekeepers got a buzz out of their return following Covid-19 pandemic.

The knowledgeable apiarists brought along an observation hive, allowing visitors to their stall get a good look at the busy insects.

For hairdresser David Curbishley, of Rudheath, beekeeping has been an enjoyable hobby for more than 20 years.

He said: “I’ve been beekeeping for more than 20 years. I’m a hairdresser and one of my customers got me into it.

“We got talking about it and next thing I knew he was bringing me a beehive.

“It is not an easy hobby, but you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

“We’ve had a lot of rough years with bees in decline, but when you pull a super full of honey out, it brings a big smile to your face.

“It’s great to get something back from what you put into it.”

David and the other beekeepers were delighted to see youngsters and families taking an interest in the hobby.

He said: “It’s been a really busy day and having our observation hive on display has been a big attraction.

“It’s a one-off with it being on a Saturday and we’ve seen so many children and families which is really good.

“We’re regular visitors to the Cheshire Show and we’ve been looking forward to coming back.

“It was so disappointing not to be able to come and promote the group last year. Bees are in decline so promoting beekeeping is important.

“We’ve been getting children involved. If you just tell them about it, they won’t learn. We’ve been getting younger people coming into it.

“This is our 16th year at the show. It’s been brilliant to see people out and about again. It’s nice just to see people enjoying themselves again.”
