A STUDENT in Wirral has been recognised for his dedication to his engineering qualification with an international award.

Thomas Wakefield, 20, attends the Engineering College and was awarded the prestigious silver BTEC award for Engineering Learner of the Year 2021 at the BTEC Awards on July 7.

His teachers and peers recognised his commitment to helping others, hard work through the Covid-19 pandemic and passionate attitude – which as a result has helped him to achieve outstanding BTEC results.

Thomas said: “I have loved the past three years of my life.

"It has introduced me to new perspectives and expanded my interests.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to explore the creative world and I hope this award will inspire my classmates and others to aim high.”

The BTEC Awards is an annual competition where the outstanding achievements of BTEC learners, tutors, teachers, schools and colleges from 30 countries are celebrated.

This year’s awards were presented by a variety of stars including Lucy Fallon, Jamal Edwards MBE and Gareth Ellis-Unwin.
