WE asked, you answered.

As almost all lockdown restrictions, including the mandatory use of face coverings, are set to an end next week, we thought we would ask if you will continue wearing one.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Monday that step four of the Government's roadmap would go ahead on July 19.

He confirmed that face coverings would no longer be mandatory as they are still currently, instead saying that it will be down to personal choice.

They will still be advised in crowded spaces though.

And how do readers of the Guardian feel they will use their personal choice? From 291 votes, 66 per cent answered yes to continuing to wear a face mask, whereas 34 per cent said no.

The majority split was reflected on social media.

“Yes if I feel uncomfortable in a crowd,” one said. Another added: “Yes, Covid isn’t going away on 19th July.”

“Yes in crowded places. I want to protect myself and other people. What harm will it do?,” Mo Moston said.

And Vicky Butcher added: “Yes because I’m not fully vaccinated yet and come into contact with 100s of people at work.”

But it was not all one-sided.

One respondent said: “Take them off and keep them off.”

Another wrote: “No, don’t wear it anyway.”

Other readers were more flexible with their choice.

One reader said: “If you want to wear one then do it. If you don't then don't. Simple as that. No need for insults just make your choice.”

“It depends on the situation,” said John Baker.
