NORTHWICH Round Table is asking for the community's help in building a new Santa sleigh in time for Christmas.

The sleigh is a popular sight in the town every winter, with both Northwich Round Table and Northwich Rotary Club spreading joy to residents.

After helping Santa make his rounds across Northwich for more than 20 years, the Round Table's old sleigh float needs replacing – and before the busy festive period begins.

Tom Robb from Northwich Round Table explained: "For many years we have operated one of the Santa sleigh floats which regularly tour Northwich at Christmas, raising thousands of pounds for charities and good causes every year.

"After many years of faithful service since the early 90s, and far too many repairs, we’ve decided to retire the old sleigh as it has come to the end of its life and build a new one.

"Building a new sleigh will require a mammoth skills effort and a large materials bill.

"We’re running a Just Giving campaign to raise funds to pay for the materials.

"We’d really like a range of trades people from the area to help us get the sleigh built too.

"What we want to try and do is bring together people in Northwich and make it more of a community project, because this is one of the core values of what we do."

Despite the challenges of Covid and the added safety measures needed, the Round Table and Rotary Club successfully helped Santa on his tour around Northwich last Christmas, lifting people's spirits following a tough year during the pandemic.
