WHARTON Cons recorded an emphatic victory in their defence of the Brunner Cup on Saturday.

Wharton recorded 11 winners in beating Davenham by 115 chalks, with only Eddie Gowan recording a win for Davenham.

Comberbach were involved in a thrilling match against Sale XL. After 12 games, the scores were tied at 194 apiece.

Comberbach then came through a four-jack play off to advance to the last eight by one chalk.

After an early wobble in their tie, Castle Sports eased past Poynton Sports 211-175.

In an all Mid Cheshire League clash, Red Lion proved too good for Wharton Rec recording 10 winners on route to a 239-162 victory.

Play now moves onto the quarter-final stage with games to be played on July 17.

In the Mid Cheshire League on Friday evening, Wharton Cons suffered their first loss when they travelled to Frodsham Red Lion.

Red Lion returned eight winners on the road to a 233-197 victory. Adam Penlington was the best winner for Red Lion with a 21-8 card.

Comberbach had eight winners at home to the reigning league champions Castle Sports A, but this wasn’t enough to win the match with Castle winning the game by nine chalks.

Rudheath had a disappointing journey to Alsager, where Charlie Linegar was the only Rudheath player to win his game.

In the remaining fixture, Castle Sports B recorded a victory over Middlewich CC.

In Section One, Wharton Cons B scored the perfect 210 points against near neighbours Winsford Cons and lead the table courtesy of playing two games more than Crewe Post Office.

Meadowbank will be hoping to get their promotion push in place after a good win against Owley Wood A by 199-158.

After last week, the lead changed hands in Section Two with Sandbach Park now heading the table while in Section Three, Middlewich RBL sit in first place.

Castle Sports C and Barnton CC C lead the tables in Section Four and Five respectively.
