THIS weekend's Artisan Market in Northwich has been cancelled over fears of spreading Covid in the town.

The popular monthly event only made its much anticipated return to the streets in an around Barons Quay last month.

However, following the recent spike in positive Covid-19 cases, organisers say they have decided to cancel Saturday's event to help stop the spread.

Lina Higuita, Centre Manager at Barons Quay said: "The Artisan Market organisers together with Northwich Town Council and Barons Quay have decided to cancel this weekend’s event and support the local authority in their efforts to curb the spread of the Covid-19 Delta variant in Northwich.

"The additional measures necessary to run the event safely will be in place for the event in July, when we hope the infection rates will be back to an acceptable level.

"We look forward to seeing market traders return to Northwich next month; in the meantime please continue to wear masks, social distance and support local businesses where possible."

The news follows advice for all people living in Northwich and Winsford to go and get tested after an outbreak in positive cases.

There were 50 new positive cases across Cheshire West and Chester in the latest figures released, with the infection rate across the borough being 85 per 100,000 people - which is more than four times higher than it was the week before.

The date for the next Artisan market is Saturday, July 10.
