FOLLOWING the recent Covid outbreak in the town, Northwich Town Council has cancelled its June monthly meeting.

The meeting, which was due to take place on Monday (June 7) evening, was to be the first face to face meeting of the council in more than a year.

Like all councils around the country, meetings have been held virtually during the pandemic, but the Government did not extend the legislation to allow this to continue beyond May.

The news comes following the announcement of an outbreak of cases in and around the town, with everyone living in both Northwich and Winsford being urged to take a PCR test.

Chris Shaw, Clerk of the town council said: "Due to the current spike in Covid cases in Northwich we have decided to cancel our Full Council meeting on Monday evening.

"This would have been our first face to face meeting in alternative premises as the Government did not pass legislation for virtual meetings to continue from May.

"Our next Full Council meeting will be on Monday, July 5 2021 and the venue will be announced in the next few weeks."
