A PUB at the centre of a Covid outbreak scare in Northwich has re-opened and moved to reassure the public they are doing everything they can to stop the spread.

The Quayside decided to close its doors after being informed that a customer who had been in the premises on Saturday, May 22, had tested positive for virus.

However, the Witton Street pub moved quickly to ensure the health and safety of its customers and staff were of paramount importance, and said it continues to adhere to all government guidelines in relation to Covid-19.

A spokesman for The Quayside said: "On Thursday, May 27, management at The Quayside were informed that a customer who had been in the premises on Saturday, May 22 had tested positive for coronavirus.

"Upon receiving this information, The Quayside announced that they would be closing immediately.

"This decision was not enforced but was made by the management team to ensure the safety of all customers and staff.

"Following the closure, all staff went for a PCR test and the premises underwent a Covid deep clean and sanitisation.

"No staff working at The Quayside on Saturday, May 22, or those who have been in contact with staff that were, will return to work until they have been for a further PCR test which has come back negative.

"The health and safety of our customers is of paramount importance to The Quayside which is why we closed as soon as we were informed of a positive case via Track and Trace.

"The Quayside is now back open and is once again adhering to all government guidelines that are in place in relation to Covid-19."

Northwich BID Project Manager Adam Gerrard said: "The Quayside has taken the correct approach in order to protect everyone’s health and safety.

"I would urge the people of Northwich to keep supporting their local businesses and make sure they are following the safety measures that our businesses have worked hard to put in place."
