A DISPOSABLE barbecue discarded in a bin caused a large fire.

Five fire engines were used to fight the blaze on Rosslyn Lane in Cuddington shortly before 9pm last night.

On arrival a smoke alarm was sounding and crews discovered that a fire involving a bin had spread to a large garage and was affecting the house.

No-one was unaccounted for.

Gas and electricity supplies were isolated, a safety cordon was set up and firefighters extinguished the fire with two hose reel jets.

Crews inspected the house to make sure that the fire had not spread beyond the garage.

A thermal imaging camera was used to look for hotspots.

Some guttering and fascias had melted as a result of the blaze, but there was no fire damage inside the house.

The fire caused extensive damage to the garage.

Once the fire was out, the area affected by it was damped down and turned over to make it safe.

Firefighters left once they were satisfied that it was safe and the fire was fully out.

Crews were at the scene for nearly six hours.

No-one is believed to have been injured by the fire.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire is believed to have been caused by a disposable barbecue having been put in the bin."

Six fire engines, including a relief crew, attended from Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich, Runcorn, Birchwood and Stockton Heath
