A HEDGE fire destroyed a shed and spread to a house.

A discarded cigarette is believed to have caused the fire.

Firefighters were called to Gladstone Street in Northwich shortly after 6pm last night.

On arrival crews discovered that a hedge fire had spread to a plastic shed and was affecting a house.

Firefighters extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet.

Crews then turned over and damped down the areas affected by the fire and made sure that it had not spread inside the house.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire destroyed the shed and melted some of the house's guttering and fascias.

"Firefighters left the address once they were satisfied that it was safe and the fire was fully out."
