Brewery-owner Marston's has spent more than £1million on transforming The Riverside Inn and The Watermead, which both re-opened on Monday, following the government's latest lifting of restrictions.

The investment is already reaping some rewards in the local community, with 34 new jobs created across both establishments.

Marston's identified both pubs as sites which required a modern update and restorative work, especially at the Riverside, which was unfortunately hit by devastating flooding back in January.

Having received a full refresh of its internal and external décor, the modern features at the Riverside have created a fresh look, although traditional aspects are still celebrated throughout to ensure the pub has kept its much-loved character and charm.

Kelly Martin, who has been General Manager at the Riverside for eight years, said: “The pub looks incredible, the results are fantastic, and we can’t wait to see what our guests think.

"As well as the refurbishment we have brand new additions such as a kids’ cinema and riverside dining, so we are really excited to have people back and enjoy the Riverside once again."

The Watermead has a new name and new beer garden to welcome back customers.

The Watermead on the other hand has undergone a complete re-invention and will be opening as a Two for One pub and is now called The Weaver’s Whistle.

Providing a new experience for guests, the Weaver’s Whistle has received a full refurbishment consisting of modern features and cosy décor, as well as a newly designed bar area which showcases the pub’s drink selection.

Guests will be able to enjoy traditional pub meals from grills to Sunday carveries as well as an array of dessert options from the pub’s new Two for One menu offering.

The inside has been completely tranformed too.

Proving to be the perfect host for any occasion, the Weaver’s Whistle offers on site entertainment from a kids’ cinema to a pool table and dart set, as well as offering private function rooms for guests to hire out for celebrations and events.

Across both sites the makeovers extend past the hand pulls to the pub gardens, creating and re-styling the outdoor spaces to help restore the pubs, providing the perfect space for guests to welcome in the Spring/Summer days and evenings.

Leigh Capon, General Manager at the Weaver’s Whistle, said: "The pub has been completely transformed and has a new look and menu, so I can’t wait to reopen our doors and welcome back guests."

Melanie Swan, Regional Operations Manager at Marston’s, said: “We wanted to transform both pubs so when guests revisit them, they are truly blown away by the results.

"Pubs are at the heart of local communities and so we are excited to have given these pubs a new lease of life for guests to enjoy."
