DRIVERS are being warned to take care on the M6 after cows have tried to walk on to the motorway.
Police and Highways officers are en route to the incident on the northbound carriageway between junction 17, for Sandbach, and junction 18 for Northwich.
A lane has been closed while the animals are dealt with safely.
A North West Motorway Police spokesman said: "Police and Highways en route to report of cows on the embankment M6 northbound between Junction 17 and 18.
"One cow has allready attempted to walk in live lane."
A Highways England spokesman said: "The M6 northbound J17 (Sandbach) to J18 (Northwich) one lane has been closed due to animals in the carriageway.
"Cheshire Police, North West Motorway Police and traffic officers are on their way to the area."
