NORTHWICH BID has shared some amazing drone shots of the town's new outdoor space, as work on it nears completion.

The images, taken by A1 Drones, show how quickly the site of the old outdoor market has come on in recent weeks.

Taking to Twitter, the BID said: "Work is progressing well and it won't be long until people will be able to enjoy using the space for socialising."

Speaking to the Guardian last week, Cllr Sam Naylor said the work was ahead of schedule, with an original completion date slated for mid-April.

He said: "The work's being done really quickly.

"We've also spent money painting all the dilapidated shops in the area around the open space.

"So what we'll have instead of this air of deprivation is this amazing space.

"Obviously there are still Covid restrictions in place but pretty soon it's all going to be up and running.

"In a relatively short space of time the town is going have this new space and it will be surrounded by an area that gives a sense of opportunity and optimism.

"We've already had lots of interest from people who want to put events on when it opens."

One of the events that was suggested as a possible location for the site was some kind of Pina Colada type festival, to mark the town's links with the writer and singer of the famous song, Rupert Holmes.

Cllr Naylor added: "Northwich Radio are now on board with that idea too.

"There are a small nucleus of people who are really keen to make it happen.

"I'm pretty confident something will happen about that this summer, but there is no date been decided as of yet.

"There's so much enthusiasm around that idea and other events so we're determined to get Northwich back up and running.

"We want to make Northwich the events capital of the mid-Cheshire area."
