A NORTHWICH Postmaster has moved to thank the people of the town after re-opening his shop after the January floods.

Muhammad Sufian, who has been running the High Street business for the last five years, has had to fund the cost of the repairs himself while he waits for his insurance company to pay out.

After being forced to close after the rains of Storm Christoph flooded out the shop on January 21, Muhammad and his team worked tirelessly to be able to re-open on Wednesday, March 24.

He said: "Me my wife and the team at Northwich post office are delighted to be back open.

"The past few months have been stressful.

"Trying to get the post office and newsagent back up and running.

"As a post office and newsagent business we provide a wide range of products and services.

"We are at the heart of the community and we will be stronger together.

"The Northwich community have showed us a lot of love and support."

Muhammad's hard work and dedication is even more remarkable given that both he and his wife live in Bradford and make the daily commute to Northwich six times a week.

"I’ve been running the Northwich post office for over five years," he said.

"The people of the town have always supported me and the business and hopefully will continue to support us.

"My wife and I live in Bradford and we commute 70 miles six days a week to come and provide a service to the Northwich community and we love it here."

After the most recent flood, the second in the last 18 months, Muhammad hopes Cheshire West and Chester Council will sort out the problematic drains once and for all.

He added: "We hope the council can resolve the flooding issue and help the town businesses get back up and running.

"Over the times I’ve been here a lot of business have closed which is not good.

"I hope the council can get more businesses to come into the town.

"As for us, I paid for the flood repairs myself and although I am going through the insurance company, they are taking their time."
