NORTHWICH'S very own band of superheroes want your help in a campaign to ensure every child gets a chocolate egg this Easter.

The Leftwich-based super group spent much of last year's lockdown donning their outfits and walking the streets to bring some much needed cheer during what was a difficult time for many.

After Northwich Community Support (NCS) decided to launch an Easter egg appeal to help vulnerable children, the superheroes answered the call to ensure they will be delivered safely to kids across the area.

The plan is to ensure Easter still goes ahead for those in need, with the real life heroes of NCS launching a drive for Easter eggs on a scale rarely seen before.

Sarah Kavanagh, who is one of the volunteers at NCS, explained how the group has a mission to distribute at least 3000 donated chocolate eggs.

She said: "For one of many reasons, many families have been financially impacted by the fallout from the pandemic which has swept the globe.

"It's been really well received so far.

"We've already received lots of help and support from plenty of businesses and other local groups.

"We've had loads of donations already and Waitrose have very kindly set up a drop off point."

As well as being conveniently located in the town centre, the Waitrose drop off point will also offer the opportunity for children making a donation to have their photo taken with their favourite superhero.

"It's all just a bit of fun to try and raise awareness of the Easter campaign," she went on.

"We've already had around 2000 eggs donated, which is just amazing.

"Before we launched the appeal we reached out to all primary schools in Northwich and the surrounding villages.

"They've all responded to us now so we know roughly how many eggs are required as we want to ensure every child who is classed as being vulnerable will get one of the eggs.

"Children might be classed as vulnerable due to financial or other reasons.

"We also want to ensure that if these children have older siblings in senior schools or younger ones who aren't yet of school age will get an egg too.

"It's been quite a logistical challenge to get these numbers and make sure no child goes without."

The request for thousands of eggs will also ensure children with Downs Syndrome and others who will be spending Easter in hospital will not be missing out.

Sarah added: "We did stuff with the Christie last year and once again who are looking to support them as well as cancer wards and children's ward at other hospitals.

"Many of the eggs are due to be delivered by the superheroes this week, but obviously with Covid restrictions still being in place, these need to be planned carefully.

"With this in mind, on Thursday, April 1, there will be superheroes aplenty at Waitrose in Northwich at 6.30pm.

"All are encouraged to pop down and meet their favourite hero from the Marvel/DC Universe and where possible, donate an egg to this fabulous cause.

"There may even be given a photo with a superhero and a pack of sweets as a reward."
