As beauty salons and skin clinics have been closed, many of us feel like our skin is beginning to miss some serious attention.

Last week I spoke about the importance of exfoliation and how maintaining a good skincare routine will also get your skin well prepared in order to achieve optimum results for when the salons do open.

One of the best ways to combat premature ageing is to wear a good sunscreen daily, the sun can be one of the most ageing factors to the skin.

It is no good having all the amazing anti-age treatments now available and then breaking down the newly built collagen by exposing your skin to UV rays!

If you are having deeply exfoliating treatments, you should be wearing a factor fifty sunscreen, or you can end up with uneven pigmentation, which can look ageing to the skin.

If your skin this lockdown feels like it is beginning to sag, then look no further than having a radio frequency facial, which stimulates collagen, leaving the skin firm and toned.

Book in to your chosen salon for when lockdown is lifted.
At the Cheshire Beauty Barn, I use a mixture of technologies to build collagen and lift the muscles.

I have been using Caci non-surgical face lift, which uses a micro current to stimulate muscles to firm and create a lift, which achieves great results when used with radio frequency.
I am also trialing some new facial treatments using the HIFU non-surgical face lift techniques. I will keep you posted and give you my verdict.

Anti-aging treatments at home

The home treatments aren’t generally as effective or as powerful as most of the professional treatments found in the salons or clinics, that does not mean you can’t give your skin in between treatments.

If you cannot afford salon treatments then some DIY treatments can be better than none.

For a home care facial toning try Nuface Mini Toning Device, great to keep the skin toned in between treatments and to give your skin a boost.

Try cleansing, then exfoliating and then applying an anti-ageing face mask.

I love the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Mask; it is one of my favorites. I use this mask before using my DIY equipment, for a super boost use your facial toning device, followed by your cryo roller.

The best time to do this is in the evening before going to bed, then you are not applying makeup.

Follow with your usual night time routine. A couple of weeks after doing this, you should notice a difference and not dread the zoom calls so much!

A problem shared

The hay fever season is approaching, and I get many people in the salon who dread the reactions to the pollen, sneezing, red swollen and dry and itchy eyes can ruin the enjoyment of the spring and summer months.

I am also one of those who suffer from hay fever and allergies, so I can sympathise with a client who has recently asked me for the following advice:

The problem

During the spring and summer months I suffer with terrible hay fever, that gives me a runny and red nose and worst of all watery red, puffy eyes that get very dry and are now beginning to look lined. Can you help?

My advice

Not only can hay fever be uncomfortable, but it can make our eyes look tired, dry and sore. I always think that prevention is better than cure, but I realize that you can’t stay indoors forever, particularly during Covid times as it is nice to meet with a friend or a family member for a walk outdoors.

  • Wear sunglasses when outdoors, not only will they protect your eyes, if the sunglasses cover your eyes well they will act as a barrier from the pollen.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • If you are able try hay fever remedies available from the pharmacy.
  • When you return indoors, shower away the pollen, I find this really helps to relieve symptoms, then out on clean clothes.  Where possible keep your windows closed when the pollen count is high.
  • Use eyelid wipes if you are out and about and unable to wash away the pollen.
  • When you get home use a soothing eyebath to wash away the pollen.  Hydrate the eyes by using anti-allergy or hydrating eyedrops.
  • Keep a soothing eye mask in the fridge, you can get antiallergy ones. Once you have cleansed your eyes lie down with your cold eye mask and let it soothe and cool the eyes.
  • If the skin around your eyes is dry and lined, place a hydrating eye mask in the form of cream around the orbit of the eye or use gel ones. I use Elemis Pro-Collagen Gel Eye Masks, which contains Hyaluronic Acid which really hydrates and other ingredients to smooth and tighten. I use my cryo roller afterwards over the residue left on the skin around the eyes.
  • Keep a cryo roller in the freezer, once frozen, roll on to a clean towel to remove excess ice. Then roll under neath the eyes. I use the Teresa Tarmey one, but I think the ones with the handles are easier to hold.  Rollaway the puffiness and your eyes will look soothed and calm again.
  • Wear a good eye cream to combat dry skin around the eyes.
  • Try having an air purifier in your bedroom, I have heard many positive revies recently from people who suffer with hay fever.
  • When the salons are open try a Caci eyelift treatment, if ageing is a concern, it will lift your eyes and make them look younger.
