A CHURCH is set to launch a cafe to help provide extra support and cut isolation in the community.

Life Church Barnton has received a £1,000 grant from David Keane, Cheshire's police and crime commissioner, to host drop-in sessions.

The cash, which was seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act, will go towards new equipment to make the space feel welcoming and safe.

While the whole community is welcome, Life Church is particularly looking to support people recovering from addiction, youngsters with emotional issues, the transgender community and people from deprived backgrounds through the cafe – which will also offer light refreshments at minimal cost.

Mr Keane said: "The coronavirus has presented an unprecedented crisis in our communities with more people struggling at home, alone.

“It’s fantastic to see a community organisation like the Life Church opening their doors to support vulnerable people. As lockdown restrictions ease in the coming months, it’s important to remember we need to remain safe and take necessary precautions but it’s also important to reconnect.

"There are so many people out in our communities who are struggling to cope and projects like this give us all hope that things can improve and things will get better.”

The money is being awarded from Mr Keane's community policing fund, and officers in Marbury will play an active role in the project by delivering presentations, engaging with attendees and offering guidance to those who seek reassurance or support.

The cafe will provide a welcoming environment run by community volunteers, where individuals can seek friendship and support, including from other relevant bodies.
