RESIDENTS who live near a beauty spot have teamed up to share their love of the neighbourhood.

Villagers have launched Pickmere Residents Association and hope to bring the community closer together.

Chairman Alison Knights, who has lived in Pickmere for more than 30 years, said: "It is a beautiful place to live. We are so fortunate, we can walk out of our houses and be in the countryside.

"We all have a passion for Pickmere. We are a group of like minded residents who care deeply about where we live and have an interest in what goes on around us."

The idea to form a group started last summer but has been delayed due to lockdown.

Residents leafleted the village and a committee of five enthusiasts launched the association on Saturday.

"It will be a discussion group where people can have their say about any issues around Pickmere," said Alison. "We are quite excited about it. We hope it will unite the community, making everyone more aware of what is happening.

"We've already got a good cross section of people, including mums, grandparents and retirees."

It is hoped the group will help residents and neighbours build a strong sense of community.

"We hope people will find it useful and helpful," said Alison. "There are already groups in the village who organise community events and support people during lockdown.

"We will be a voice for the community. We hope to inject more pride in Pickmere among people who live here and also visitors."

Residents have already litter picked in the village and plan to organise a sunflower competition.

The association has also launched a Facebook group which aims to be a one stop shop for villagers.

Residents can talk about local issues, share information on facilities, local services, activities and photographs.

Anyone who lives in the village is welcome to join by emailing PickmereRA@hotmail.com.
