THE company building HS2 has withdrawn plans to build a temporary compound near Lostock Works.

Last October, HS2 Ltd submitted plans to Cheshire West and Chester Council for a temporary compound for up to five years off Griffiths Road.

The compound would have been used during ground investigation work, ahead of construction work in the future.

But now, HS2 Ltd has withdrawn the proposal, with the work set to be managed from an existing compound near Altrincham instead.

A spokesman for HS2 said: “We have withdrawn the planning application for the compound in Northwich as we believe operations linked to this year’s programme of ground investigation works can be managed from the existing compound at Bowdon.”

Rudheath Parish Council had objected to the proposal, insisting its residents would be 'overly and negatively affected' by vehicle movements to and from the site.

HS2 will run through mid Cheshire if Phase 2b is approved – with the bill yet to be considered by Parliament.

The firm had wanted to open a construction compound off Cookes Lane in 2019, but the proposal was rejected last February.

Last Thursday, February 11, HS2 Phase 2a was given Royal Assent – meaning the high-speed railway will run from Birmingham to Crewe.
