MORE than 120 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the latest figures for Cheshire East and West.

New data from Public Health England covers the 24-hour period up to 9am today, February 12.

In that time, there were 66 cases in Cheshire East and 59 in Cheshire West, a total of 125.

That takes Cheshire East’s total number of Covid-19 cases to 18,859 since the pandemic started, while Cheshire West’s total stands at 19,735.

Meanwhile, the two boroughs are now seeing their lowest Covid infection rates in almost two months, following a huge spike in the fortnight after Christmas.

Cheshire East’s rate is now 167.1 per 100,000 people following 642 cases in the seven days up to February 7.

That is the borough’s lowest rate since December 16, and compares to 177 per 100,000 people in yesterday’s figures and 197.6 per 100,000 people one week ago.

Cheshire West’s infection rate is now 181.9 per 100,000 people following 624 cases in the seven days up to February 7.

That is the borough’s lowest rate since December 15, and compares to 190.3 per 100,000 people in yesterday’s figures and 269 per 100,000 people one week ago.
