A SLIP road on the M6 has been closed after a lorry overturned on the A556 this afternoon, February 9.

The southbound exit slit road at junction 19 for Northwich and Knutsford is currently closed.

It follows a lorry overturning at the Tabley roundabout, which led to the driver being taken to hospital.

Two lanes of traffic have also been closed on the westbound A556 heading towards the roundabout, and traffic is being diverted onto the M6 southbound.

Police and traffic officers are currently at the scene, and the road closure remains in place while the lorry's load shed is cleared from the carriageway.

A spokesman for North West Motorway Police wrote on Twitter: "Patrols still dealing at J19 M6/ A556. Traffic is heavy and moving.

"Thankfully the Air Ambulance was not required."

Two fire engines, one from Knutsford and one from Penketh, attended the incident at 2.30pm.

A spokesman at Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "The driver had self extricated prior to firefighters arriving at the scene.

"Absorbent mats have been used to soak up petrol spillage and a hose reel jet is on standby as a precaution.

"Ambulance and air ambulance attended to the scene and the driver of the lorry was taken to hospital."
