UP to 50 members of staff at Frank Roberts and Sons Ltd are set to be made redundant, the company has confirmed.

It follows a major restructuring of operations at the Rudheath business, involving the merger of the Roberts Bakery and Little Treats brands.

The firm has now begun the process of consultation, with up to 50 roles expected to be made redundant as a result.

A spokesman for Frank Roberts and Sons Ltd said: "The decision follows a merging of two business units – Little Treats and Roberts Bakery brand – into one, to make the company simpler, leaner and more focused and to ensure the business has the right cost structure and capability for future growth.

"The company acknowledges that the reorganisation has come at a time of great economic uncertainty, which has increased the challenges it is facing.

"But the restructure to build a stronger business would have happened regardless of the pandemic and has not been prompted by it.

"The focus is now on doing everything possible to support affected employees through this change."
